History of Coca Cola League
Coca Cola is one of the giants in soft drink manufacturers. The Coca Cola products are consumed in more than 200 countries worldwide. The Coca Cola Company sponsored a large number of sports events. Cricket, football and baseball are few of the sports which grabbed the Coca Cola sponsorship.
The Football League Championship is known as the Coca Cola Football League Championship or in simple words The Championship. This is due to the biggest sponsorship offered by Coca Cola for championship in football. The football championships were known as Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 previously. Recently in 2004, these three championships got the names such as Championship, League 1 and League 2 respectively. The title was converted into “Coca Cola League” due to the biggest sponsorship offered by Coca Cola.
It was previously known as “The Football League” and was founded by William McGregor. According to his opinion, the football should be made professional in order to avoid the dis-organized matches. As a result in 1888 the first ever Football League started with 12 members in the club. After this many changes took place in the football league. In 1891 two new rules were introduced in football. These were the penalty kick and the goal nets. In 1938 the laws and rules of football were written once again. Later in 1992, this prestigious sport got its sponsorship from the Coca Cola Company. At this time the football First division was divided to form the most famous Premier League. The Premier League was sponsored by Coca Cola. As a result the cup was known as the Coca – Cola Cup in 1992.
The Coca Cola Football League championship is considered to be the highest division of football. The modern football league championship was established in 2004 – 2005. This was the same football league which was known as The Football League First Division. According to the survey made by Deloitte, the Football League First Division was the sixth richest across the world. In the non – top flight division of football, the Coca Cola Football League proved to be the richest. During that season, the popularity of the league reached the highest levels. The total attendance of the match viewers was around 9.8 millions. This was rather the fourth largest number of audiences for The European football league. There were around 24 clubs present, which played for the championship.
