Goalkeeper Friedel Signs a New Deal

Blackburn Rovers has something to talk about even though it’s an off pitch affair. Brad Friedel, the Blackburn goalkeeper has extended his contract at Ewood Park. The former American National team goalkeeper has decided to stay at Ewood Park till 2010. Friedel has pledged his future to Blackburn Rovers by signing a 12 month contract. Brad Friedel has also kept the goal for Liverpool before joining the Rovers. He has established himself as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the English Premier League since 2000 when he joined Blackburn Rovers. The 36 year old goalkeeper has played a club record number of matches by representing the club in the 247 Premier League matches and by signing this deal Friedel plans to complete a decade with the Rovers.
Friedel quoted “I am delighted to have extended the agreement by a further 12 months. It was not a difficult decision to make; Blackburn Rovers is home to me. This is my club and I have a special affinity with it”. He even added that he expected this to happen as he had stayed for quite some time at Ewood Park and his expectations have been proved right by the club. Friedel was phenomenal in making Rovers win the League cup in 2002 (Their only title since 1995) and has played every single league match for the past four seasons. Brad Friedel has more to prove now as the club is not really fairing well in the Premiership.
