Chelsea was on the verge of creating a club record of winning 10 straight games on Saturday. But their hopes were thrashed by Portsmouth when they held Chelsea at 1-1 at Fratton Park. Jermaine Defoe turned out to be the hero of the day as it was him who scored the equalizer. Nicolas Anelka scored the opening goal of the game for the Les Bleus in the 55th minute. However, it is claimed that Chelsea did not at all deserve the goal they scored. Jermaine Defoe, who was looking quite slow in the first half scored a route-one equalizer by hitting the back of the net from a Milan Baros header. Defoe kept onside and converted Baros header into a goal which was attributed to goalkeeper David James long clearance. Lassana Diarra (Ex-Chelsea and Ex-Arsenal) also contributed a lot in the game but his cross couldn’t be converted into a goal by Milan Baros who was making his debut with the Pompey’s.

Chelsea also came very close to scoring when Ashley Cole made a square pass to Ballack, but the German midfielder shot the ball over the cross bar. Anelka also was about to score a goal just after 10 minutes but Portsmouth defender Hreidarsson blocked his shot by a beautiful sliding tackle. The game was a fast paced one as the Pompey’s appealed for two penalties but all these appeals were left unheard. Jermaine Defoe was the hero of the game and his goal would always be remembered by Chelsea.
