Chelsea wasn’t in its best form on Saturday, but was successful in getting all three points from their match against Birmingham City. Claudio Pizzaro’s crucial goal allowed Chelsea to go home happily from St Andrews. Birmingham City who disappointed the Gunners last week by drawing the game with them almost did the same with the Blues until Pizzaro came for the rescue of the Les Blues in the 89th minute. The goal was scored when Bellettti’s corner was headed in the back of the net by Pizzaro who came in the game as a substitute. Birmingham was haunted again by Pizzaro as this was his second goal of the season and both of his goals have been scored against Birmingham.

Pizzaro came on the pitch when Shaun Wright-Phillips was injured after awkwardly falling from an aerial challenge by Damien Johnson and was subsequently substituted by Pizzaro. The visitors had most of the possession in the first 45 minutes of the game with impressive combination showed by Michael Ballack and Florent Malouda. However, Ballack got impatient and missed a good chance from 40 yards of the box when Ashley Cole was fouled by Sebastian Larsson and the ball was finally held by the Birmingham goalkeeper.

Birmingham was close to nearly scoring the opening goal when Peter Cech made a blunder on the face of the goal in the 38th minute but Cameron Jerome wasn’t able to take advantage of the situation. Chelsea is tagging behind Manchester United and Arsenal but one game is enough to clear the difference.
