Augustin Binya’s Appeal Rejected

Augustin Binya’s appeal against a 6 match European ban has been bluntly rejected by the UEFA. The Benefica midfielder was suspended during his match against Celtic in the Champions League group D match on the 6th of November. The 23 year old footballer was dismissed on account of a dirty challenge on Celtic midfielder Scott Brown. The challenge was so ugly that it had risked Scott Brown’s career in football. Brown is still recovering from the injury.
UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body announced the punishment for Augustin Binya on the 16th of November and referred to Augustin’s actions as “a challenge that seriously endangered the physical health of the opposing player”. Augustin Binya has lost a lot of respect and has to face a lot of criticism from the whole world on account of his cheap shot on the 6th of November.
On Thursday the Appeals Body of UEFA upheld the ban inflicted on Binya at a meeting. Due to all this, the Cameroon international had to miss his team’s Champion League matches against former Champions AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk. Because of Augustin Binya’s horrendous challenge Celtic is suffering in the Champions League and is losing major points on the table. This penalty inflicted on Binya has suspended him from all the UEFA competitions and this means that Augustin Binya would not be allowed to represent his club against Nurnberg next month. It is an important fixture of the last 32 of the UEFA and Binya’s absence would be largely felt.
