Martin O’Neill, the boss of Aston Villa football club said that Phil Dowd, the referee had was the prime reason in missing the chance of winning. The referee declared the match a draw after Aston Villa and Chelsea football club both scored four. The visitors of the match were literally stood up when the score struck 2-0 and Zat Knight of the Aston Villa was sent off with a red card for a foul against Michael Ballack. This led to Andriy Shevchenko to score a penalty goal just before the first half time. Martin O’Neill also felt that the free kick that was offered to Chelsea’s Michael Ballack put their team up to 4-3 and they should not have been awarded the chance.
Martin O’Neill said that his team was playing brilliantly and the team deserved to be on the 2-0 mark lead, but the penalty in was really uncertain and that was a major turnover point in the match. He said that suddenly the game turned to be 2-1 and a man of their team was sent off that left them play the second half with just 10 men. He continued that it was never a free kick for Chelsea, but amazingly he thought the referee might not offer a free kick to them that further led to a goal on their team. Aston Villa earned a point during the last minute of the match when Gareth Barry placed the ball into the nets with the penalty that was offered when Ashley Cole was sent off with a handball. The final scores for the match were however 4-4, making the match equal on both sides.
